Thank you for attending the 2024 CSAP Summit!

We are so glad that you were able to join us. We are grateful for your continued support and interest in the work of CSAP as well as your passion to come together on the critical topic of school attendance. The summit encouraged thoughtful discussions and inquiries as to how we can better understand school attendance, particularly from the student perspective. We also learned about concrete solutions to promoting school attendance and how to effectively implement these strategies. Your expertise and contributions are highly valued.
It is through such partnerships that real change can be fostered.

A day of building on last year's insightful discussions and knowledge sharing at the Strategic Research Collaboration Summit on School Attendance.

WHAT WE LEARNT

The Head-Heart-Feet activity at the 2024 Summit allowed us to learn what you are thinking, feeling, and the actionable steps you are/want to take around school attendance. Here is what we learnt:

About The Event

We are excited to have hosted the 2nd annual School Attendance Summit!

In 2023, we came together to discuss how to promote school attendance. Our conversations touched on the need for more information about school attendance, the need for a shared vision among partners so that we can rally around children and families to support them towards school attendance, and how crucial it is for students and their families to feel like they belong at school.

This year, we built upon the discussions and connections between CSAP partners and members through panels, presentations and sharing sessions. We hope to continue to refine and expand the community agenda to support school attendance. We will continue to listen to the experiences of students and families as they navigate school attendance. Their voices are a key part of making meaningful progress.

Join the Conversation

We're eager to connect with you, to share knowledge, exchange data, and tap into each other's expertise. The Strategic Research Collaboration Summit is all about sparking profound conversations, fostering connections, and ultimately, shaping a more robust community research agenda. We look forward to the coming years of collaboration!

Dr. Patricia A. Graczyk, PhD

Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology in Psychiatry

Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed School Psychologist

University of Illinois Chicago

Dr. Graczyk's current research focuses on using school-based strategies to help students attend school more regularly and remove obstacles that prevent them from going to school.

"To truly meet the needs of all students, it's time to broaden our focus beyond just truancy and chronic absenteeism. This presentation will show how we can promote school attendance, prevent attendance problems before they start, and catch issues early for swift intervention. Participants will dive into the Multi-Dimensional Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MD-MTSS) framework (Kearney & Graczyk, 2020), which is designed to organize evidence-based practices (EBPs) by tiers and has preliminary evidence to support its feasibility and effectiveness.

We'll lay a solid foundation for community efforts to enhance school attendance, getting into the "nuts and bolts" of what this can look like in practice. Recognizing that many students with significant attendance issues also struggle with mental health, we'll discuss how community mental health professionals can collaborate with schools to boost student attendance by addressing their emotional well-being. In addition, we’ll cover such topics as: building consensus and leadership, using tiered attendance data effectively, and implementing EBPs at each tier within the framework.

I hope that this presentation will not only equip you with foundational knowledge of the MD-MTSS framework but will also serve as a springboard for our conversations throughout the day, setting the stage for a collaborative and impactful experience."
